This Series Just Keeps Getting Better!

"It Pours" proves that C.D. Cain is not only the real deal, but is an author that is growing in her skill. We were introduced to Ms. Cain's stunning visualizations in "When it Raynes" and she has surpassed herself in "It Pours". Picking up where "Raynes" let's off, we travel with Rayne through her inner turmoil of doing her duty and marrying her long-term boyfriend or following her heart. You can feel the anxiety and stress as Rayne works through her feelings about Sam and then the excitement in her life as she finally begins to understand, and accept, herself. One thing that cannot be forgotten when reviewing this book is the descriptive power Ms. Cain has. As we all felt we were front row at the funeral in the last book or sitting on the dock in the bayou, this book takes it one step farther. Ms. Cain puts you in the woods, in the hammock, by the cabin and you feel the sun and smell the trees. In short, Ms. Cain is able to transport you into the book and you are there.

I hate to pick a favorite, but "It Pours" is, so far, the best book in this series. I am so glad there are two more to come in this fascinating tale!

The bar keeps getting higher!

WOW!! I loved When It Raynes. I know some were unhappy with the ending, however, I viewed it as a developing relationship. I did not have to have all the answers in the first book. I was anxiously awaiting the release of It Pours. I was not disappointed!! I feel like I am in a full on relationship with these characters. The series, although is allegedly fiction, feels very real. Beautifully written and increased depth as the series progresses. I am excited to see where Rayne's journey takes her. It is beautiful to watch someone come into their own and grow comfortable in their own skin. Write faster, Cain!!

Exceeded all expectations, a wonderful follow up to When it Raynes.

C.D. Cain's second installment in The Chambers of the Heart series exceeded all of my expectations. When it Raynes leaves us with questions we couldn't wait to have answered, It Pours brings us in a few months later into Rayne's life after the proposal. Once again C.D. used her beautifully captivating writing style to suck us into the story feeling every emotion Rayne does as she continues her journey of loss, discovery, and being true to herself. C.D. has strayed from the classic mold of les fic romance and brought us a more true to life journey, that many of us have probably experienced. This is not your standard predictable story of girl meets girl all is happy in the end. It Pours brings a few twists that as a heavy les fic reader I'm not used to seeing. It's a refreshing change in the genre that I truly believe C.D. has mastered. Not only with her ability to paint the most clear pictures of the Louisiana bayous, the waves crashing onto the beach, and the emotions that the characters are feeling, but with her ability to create a truly wonderful reading experience. With both When it Raynes and It Pours, I have laughed, cried, become angry, and happy along with Rayne, I was able to feel her pain and happiness, that is true talent.

If the ending to WIR left you upset or unsure of this author let me tell you, she makes up for it in It Pours. I personally can not wait for the third installment and know it will be just as brilliant and captivating as the first two installments.

You need this book to clarify and help to allieviate many of the issues Black Women face today. You need this book to encourage you to make the necessary changes in your life to heal and become whole. You need this book to identify some of the questions and concerns that you have while also providing answers to them. You need this book to contribute to your knowledge base. You need this book to assist you in this journey through White America as a strong, intelligent, black woman. You need this book because Bell Hooks is an genius and if you've ever read anything by her you know that she is an EXCELLENT resource.

Spectacular

There are no words to express my gratitude to bell hooks for writing this book. This was one of the first books I've read where I felt it was my story. There's so much silence and suppression in the African-American community that has altered and distorted who are and in particular, women. However, bell does not park at the problem in the book. She offers solutions. One of my favorite lines in her book is that "we recover ourselves in the act and art of loving". This may seem abstract and not tangible as a to-do list but it's just the truth. This is the sweet spot and the bottom line. I would love to have been in one of the sister groups she highlights in the book.

HELL ON WHEELS! Special Forces Mobility Operations

This is another excellent Osprey title, on a very interesting topic. For the most part I found most of the information to highly accurate on Spec Ops mobility operations. I was intimately involved in the Army's Special Forces development of long-range mobility operations. Specifically, I was working on the incorporation of motorcycles and ATV packages, as well as navigational technologies (to include Bagnold sun compass as a backup to the GPS) into the overall mobility program. Other requirements, like expedition load-outs and selection of Desert Mobility Vehicles were left to other tasked teams to develop. In the end of the developmental phase, I participated in providing chapters to the original Army Special Forces Mounted Operations field manual. I say this all because I know my stuff on this topic and the book is for the most part spot on.

The book covers the early history of mobility operations with the coverage of the British and commonwealth Long-Range Desert Group up to Iraq and Afghanistan and into the future of Special Forces mobility operations. The initial US Special Operations Command Desert Mobility Vehicle (DMV "Dumvee") evolved into the Ground Mobility Vehicle (GMV) both were modified variants of the basic High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV "Hummer") for special operations. The objective of the mobility program was to provide Special Forces with a mobility platform capable of infiltrating and operating in low- or mid-intensity conflicts over varied terrain while significantly improving Special Operations capability to travel unassisted over long distances. The GMV's were designed to employ a multitude of weapons and added increase speed and maneuverability or increase protection spec ops team.

Special Forces mobility operations were initially developed, specifically to carry out deep penetration, covert reconnaissance (read as long-range) patrols and intelligence missions. As time went on the mobility platforms were developed to ferry operators for Direct Action missions with vehicles serving as gun trucks; heavy weapons platforms for supporting fires. Even at this point the vehicles were not armored and remained thin skinned vehicles. Armor packages did not start appearing until things heated up in Iraq/ Afghanistan with the saturation of Improvised Explosives Devices in the areas of operation.

I highly recommend this small but dense book to anyone interested in military history, or are into rough terrain driving for fun or sport.

Not for everyone, but very good

Having some familiarization with WWII history about these vehicles and studying up on modern day equivalents.... this book is NOT for most readers but if this is something you are interested, it is VERY good with lots of photos! There will be few people likely able or even caring to discuss this book with you except people in the Intelligence Services and manufacturers and if you even dare mention this book over a dinner date conversation you are guaranteed to lose her! If you want some alone time from your wife be certain to discuss this book during dinner! None-the-less, with those "warnings" this a VERY nice book on the topic of special operations vehicles!

The colorblind correction glasses and the "old block" and the "the chip" gift was a great way to make their announcement. Of course, the identity thief is making more bold moves. What did I like? I really enjoy this, it was a quick read and each of the books thereafter was the same. I was lucky and was able to read them all one after the other and not have to wait till the next one came out. They were romantic stories full of humor, laughs, secrets, mysteries, and poignancy. The characters were fantastic and quirky with that romantic twist. Each story being a stepping stone to the final book and really should be read as I did (one after the other).

What will you like? As I said quick reads with the modern twist on the old fashion romances. Updated to the lifestyles of today and yet with that old fashion thing in it called LOVE! Even though these are novellas they are well developed and you can see the work of the author’s research. I think you will fall in love with each of the characters and will be caught up in the storyline. You will enjoy each book with all the twists and unexpected turns. The rich part of the books is how all the characters interact through the series with the big finale in the last book. As I read I just couldn’t wait to get to the next book. I am looking forward to maybe seeing this couple brought up in other books so we can see how they are. Hint, Hint!
