Ken Grimwood's earlier time-travel novel.

I also checked this out from the library after reading Replay, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The basic premise was: A woman suffering from epilepsy has an experimental procedure performed on her in order to help lessen the severity of the seizures. But a strange side effect occurs when she tries it -- she sees through the eyes of another woman. She feels what the woman is feeling. The interesting part was that the woman lived about 100 years ago, she's a prostitute, and she is a maniac. Murder. Intrigue. Time travel. A great twist at the end. This book deserves to be in print. Check your local library.

Serious disappointment after "Replay"

If you enjoyed "Replay" and are considering springing for an overpriced used copy online--as I did--don't. This book's feeble in both its plot and writing style, and will seriously disappoint "Replay" fans.

I read this book because I loved Replay and I thought this one was just okay. The story starting out interesting but I just hated the ending. I felt sorry for the husband and the other good characters and felt let down at the ending. I thought this book would be better than it was. Don't buy the book.

About the Author
Darrell Young (aka Digital Darrell) is a full-time author and professional photographer in the East Tennessee, USA area. He is a member of Professional Photographers of America, the North American Nature Photography Association, and Nikon Professional Services--and adheres to the ethical guidelines of those fine organizations. Darrell has been photographing people, events, and places professionally for over 30 years, with a special interest in natural history. � His mother gave him a Brownie Hawkeye camera in 1968 at the young age of 10 years and awakened a lifelong interest in capturing slices of time. Living in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains--near Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway--has given him a real concern for the natural environment and a deep interest in nature photography. You'll often find Darrell standing behind a tripod in the beautiful mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina. � Since about 2000 Darrell has been an active blogger and article writer on photographic subjects. In 2008 his first photography book was published and, since then, he has authored over a dozen books on the technical side of photography, with a special interest in helping new photographers fully understand their complex cameras so they can use them for more effective and enjoyable photography.

When James (Jim) Johnson retired from a 25-year career as a software developer for IBM, he had already been working as a contract technical editor for Microsoft. After his retirement, technical editing and writing became his primary source of income to cover the cost of his “toys”―most of which were computer and photographic equipment. Jim’s involvement with cameras began in the mid ‘50s when he needed to record the interior of caves in Kentucky. At the time, the greatest challenge was to provide adequate illumination, so he purchased a Leica 3F camera (which was the norm at that time) and experimented with numerous lighting sources. He was later able to add a nice piece of brass-and-glass that had been manufactured by Canon during the post-war occupation. That 100mm telephoto was every bit as sharp and capable as the Leica lenses. Such began Jim’s appreciation for Japanese camera equipment. The ensuing years have seen numerous Nikon SLRs and DSLRs, Canon DSLRs, and now Olympus MILCs go through his hands, satisfying his on-going interest in the evolution of the technology and providing source material for several books, including this one. Jim and his wife Heather live on the California coast in a home that overlooks the Morro Bay estuary. The coast, bays, and mountains combine to host a vast array of botanical subjects, which are the focus of Jim’s current photographic interest.

Very thorough book that will help you understand and configure the overwhelming amount of options available on the E-M5 II. If you want to make full use of your camera this is the book to get.

THE BEST Camera Book I have ever owned!

I have bought numerous camera books thru the years. NONE have been as thorough, and well detailed as this book. Everything is explained in a clear and understandable manner. It is laid out in the way you would want when you pick up the camera for the first time.
The EM-5 MkII has what is currently the most extensive menu system on any camera. It allows for customizing the camera to the degree that you actually have 4 distinct camera setups at your fingertips. ( called Mysets) But, this menu system is not "intuitive".
Without Mastering The Olympus EM-5 Mk II byDarrell Young and Jim Johnson - I would be completely overwhelmed by the menu.
Now, after reading the book - camera in hand - I am very comfortable with the EM-5 Mk II

Outstanding, Even More than I Had Hoped for!

As a relatively new owner of the OM-D E-M5 Mark II, but a long time Olympus user, I found the incredibly comprehensive and very valuable menu system difficult to navigate. I took a chance on this book, based on reviews of previous books by this author.
I am so glad I did! It will take many hours to thoroughly digest everything in it, but I have gone through enough of the menu information to be thoroughly impressed. They answer the What, How and equally important the Why you should chose one setting over another when working with the myriad of choices. Each entry is clearly written, very thorough, and easy to understand..
I highly recommend this book to all E-M5 MK II users!

Everything there is to know about the Prodigy

Great book by a friend of the band. More in depth than I thought it would be, and covers all the way up until the last album which is fantastic. I thought this may end up being one of those little fan books that people have for bands, but it is a full book with descriptions that really put you in the mindset of Liam and how his experiences shaped the band and music. The book itself is a great size, the cover has a great look to it, and the font is the perfect size for reading. I have to say as a lifelong Prodigy fan, this gave me everything I wanted to know and more. Cheers!

All too True

This is the perfect book for a hardcore Prodigy fan. You learn a bit about the whole band ,their beginnings , and their hardships. All in all I'm a huge Keith Flint fan(I dressed up as him for a local talent show and performed a selection from the band) and this was surely the most informative Prodigy book I have read. I just want another album to come out. If you're a real Prodigy fan you'll check this book out and get hooked.

Dangerously Miasmic View Of Contemporary Problems!

After reading this book I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry. I felt like laughing because this book is a silly, superficial, and self-important tome aimed at simplistic answers to very complicated cultural issues. Like a lot of other silly books like "Bobos In Paradise", "Stiffed", and a veritable armload of other self-help books, this is a pedestrian attempt by someone who seems singularly unaware of the magnitude or meaning of the phenomena he so entertainingly describes. On the other hand, I felt like crying because he encourages simple answers to na�ve people, who then breathlessly announce to the world we all just need to talk to each other to make things better. Oh, if things were only that simple!
While I have no problem with what he said, and must admit he writes both well and entertainingly, he seems to view everything around him exclusively in terms of interpersonal dynamics, which is not surprising given his background as a psycho-linguist. But to advance a thesis arguing that all we need to do to begin to effectively set aside the tortured and complicated evils of the 20th century is to "just talk to each other, really talk" is patent nonsense, and he should certainly know better. It makes little differnce whether we talk face to face or over electronic devices, most of what we say is of such little consequence and has so little to do with anything that matters that the particular technology employed is close to irrelevant. The fact that he apparently doesn't understand this, or at least does not specifically acknowledge the primary role of the virtual revolution of social and cultural changes associated with the rise of technology and technological innovation in the manifest woes that confront us, has the unfortunate consequence of misinforming and confusing people looking for simplistic answers to devilishly complex cultural realities. Sad as it is to say, we can't just kiss this booboo and make it go away. To suggest we can is just plain wrong.
Thus, getting back to basics, as another reviewer claims we need to do, is a ridiculously reductionistic oversimplification of what we need to do to rescue ourselves from the mischief of ourselves. It reminds me of Rodney King's plaintive plea asking "can't we just all get along?" Or, as Pogo once said, the enemy is us. Yet it is precisely because we are children born into and raised as natives in this schizophrenic material culture that we are singularly unable to see beyond the confines of our own quite specifically organized way of looking at, interpreting, and interacting with reality that we are now so painfully dissociated and alienated from each other. Everything within our contemporary cultural environment serves to guide us away from each other and to regard each other with suspicion, distrust, and growing hostility. In such a late stage of profound social dissolution, to suggest we can just "talk our way out of it' by being real with each other is to deny what the culture, and we as members of it, have become. It is also a dangerous delusion to suppose it is as easy as all that. Dancing down the yellow brick road just won't work. This is a silly and wrong-headed book. Avoid it.

Technology--Too Much Of A Good Thing?

This is one of the most fearless yet frightening technological ages we are privledged to live in. We can zap off an e-mail to Grandma with cute lil pix attached--and not have to hear her inquiring personal curiosities. We can leave a message on a business colleagues text pager--without explaining why we cannot make that 5 pm meeting. Our children can hide behind a pixeled monitor and act like they are tough teens with their verbage of garbage--and feel they can do the same amongst society.
This amazing book delves into a subject which is coming to the forefront. Just what are we losing by being so advanced in communications? Alot. Rich moments of physical contact, eye contact, a closeness of the human spirit which propels us to care. Everything is becoming too cold now, impersonal. Don't get me wrong, I have a fax, computers, pagers, cell phones and use them all. I also took a hard look at myself and others who enjoy such "toys". I like taking the easy way out. And the more e-connected I am--the more I lose in communal inspiration.
Author , John Locke, explains that talking, simple talking, a la sitting on the bench in front of the old soda shoppe, pulling back a swig of an icy bottle of root beer, discussing something as simple as the weather or the school bake sale, builds and maintains relationships. Without the personal touch, we are losing sense of self. We are becoming a tunnel visoned society. Not that these wonderful inventions are not helpful or needed, but at what cost?
I was on a cruise ship a few months ago. Before we left port, I was sitiing on the aft deck, relaxing, people watching, anticipating making new acqaintances. As I looked around, I counted at least 20 people on their cell phones. I shook my head, checked my purse, I had my Nokia--turned off. Thank goodness after embarkation, those phones did not work. My gosh, people were actually forced to talk to one another! And it was fruitful to be reminded that asking questions, listening, looking into someones eyes as they bragged about this or that--was a lost pleasure, the lost art of conversation.
I agree with the contents of this interesting profile by this psycholinguist. In fact I applaud it. It's the old story, let's get back to basics. Put the world on hold & let's talk, really talk. Before we just become faceless machines to one another.

Having read the other reviews, it is evident that the main argument against reading this book is that it reduces today's complex problems into an interpersonal issue that is "too simplistic".
I don't deny that our problems as people and as societies are complex, but I do not think that such complexities are enough to dismiss the interpersonal elements that form our social foundations, even if they seem relatively insignificant. I find that akin to telling a person that "they don't matter", that any one person is incapable of forming change.
This is a book. Any copy of the book is designed for one reader at a time. So it is supposed to hit the reader as a person, in a grass-roots sense. I found that it was a good explanation when I observed my own behaviors and manner of thinking. I'm a young adult; and I would much rather help myself, my family, and my community from the bottom-up than the top-down.
I think this book greatly reinforced that attitude.

Good...but, hard to keep up with Dr. Oz!

I've used both this book and the online version. Online is, obviously, very much more up to date, especially with all of the stuff being promoted on TV (Dr. Oz, I'm talking to you!). If you are OK with what has been around since 2009 (its a 2010 edition), this is very good, and well organized.
Content is well researched, it is easy to find what you are looking for. Topics are logically organized, and information is good. However (and this is why only 4 stars), if you want really up-to-date info, you will have to look elsewhere. It does, not, for example, have Raspberry Ketones, or Green Coffee Extract in it, and those are what Dr Oz and others are pushing right now.
Of course, the online version has all that, and much more, but the annual subscription is $$$!
So, for now, I'm using the book...its still really good, and cheaper than the alternatives. Arguably the best printed (on paper) resource available.

A cappuccino and this book are a delightful way to spend an evening!

I thoroughly enjoyed Tea, Tiramisu and Tough Guys! When Francesca connects with a high school classmate that she used to have a huge crush on, she refuses to believe that he murdered someone in the parking lot of his gym. She begins to investigate the murder in order to clear his name, while her good friend and possibly romantic interest, Matty, tries to prove his guilt. Along the way there are lots of cappuccinos, foam art, and tourists in addition to detecting and eating out with Matty.
I liked the way we learned of changes in Francesca's cafe-and the daily routines of the cafe and workers. I also liked Matty and Fran spending more time together-maybe leading up to a romance? The characters seemed deeper than in the first book, and their change/growth made this book just a little better. Of course it didn't hurt that the mystery was a good challenge that I only figured out a split second before Francesca!
I recommend reading the first book in the series before reading this one just because of the continuity of characters. However each book's mystery stands alone, so although the time line will be jumbled, reading them out of order won't affect the mystery!

Delightfully engaging cozy mystery

Having read 2 of Ms. Lin's Patisserie Mystery series which I enjoyed so much, I decided to read another series when the opportunity was granted to me. Hence, ***This copy was a gift from the author in exchange for an honest review.***

This is the second Cape Bay Cafe mystery. Although I would have liked to have read the first book which introduced Franny and Matty and the rest of the characters, I had no problem getting into the story.

Franny had returned to Cape Bay to take care of her ill mother and stayed to run her family's (Antonia's Italian Cafe) business after her mother died. She was reacquainted with an old classmate-buddy, Matty, who could be 'the one'. A murder had been committed and when another classmate, Todd, a former 'crush', became the prime suspect, she decided to investigate because she believed he is innocent even though Matty believed he may be guilty, perhaps because Todd was a very good athlete then and now owns/runs a gym and Matty was into using his brains vs brawn then and now has leadership responsibilities in his workplace and he was also ,aware of Franny's past fondness for Todd. Franny assured him that his intellect was superior. (It is a known fact that most women prefer brains over brawn, so you know who it is I'd choose if I were Franny.)

It was fun to follow along as they looked for the real murderer and the reason(s) for the murder. The description of the latte: how it is made, the artistic presentation of the drink and the addition of Tiramisu and new tea ideas really stimulated my salivary glands that I actually stopped reading to make a cup of Chai tea! The resolution was only OK at first but my view changed toward the end. It was a tad disappointing cuz I suspected the identity of the murderer (as soon as he was introduced a third of the way through) but his reason for killing was not clear until a vital information surfaced. Then I was sure.

I am certain I will be seeing the characters grow further in future books as well as see where their relationship will be going so I am looking forward to that. I will be getting the first book as I am curious to know more of the characters' past.

Cozy cafe with a latte.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This was a great cozy mystery. Franny has the sweetest little coffee cafe that I could sit in for hours reading a book and having a latte. Someone is found murdered in the back lot of the town fitness gym. With the town being small Franny didn't know they had one but she remembers the owner. Her old high school crush Todd and he is chief suspect. After she talks to him she don't believe he did it but Matt her current friend thinks he could have. They decide to investigate to see if they can prove who did. What I like most is that it's not one those books where the person bumbles around until they happen unto who did it or the murdered thinks their getting to close and decide to kill them to. No she actually used her brain. Awesome! This book is well worth the read.
