Okay read

This was an ok read. As soon as the story seemed to take off though- it was over. I'd have liked a little more background on E'lan's life and why he was forced to live the way he did.

A graphic novel with laugh out loud charm

Cartoonish James Kochalka's are a delight. They juxtapose the naive kitty Peanut Butter and the obnoxious, untrustworthy crow Jeremy.

Even though she's just a normal sleepy housecat, Peanut Butter has delusions of being an office worker filing papers on the Flumdummer account. She's prone to wearing hats and ties.

Jeremy is the hateful crow that lives in a nest outside Peanut Butter's window. Jeremy will do anything to steal a hat. In their first meeting, he tricks Peanut Butter into buying his nest with a "million dollar view" for a million dollars. When she protests that she doesn't have any dollars, he throws a fit.

Some scenes can be mildly disturbing -- like the incident where Jeremy offers to help Peanut Butter remove her hat that's stuck over her eyes by shooting her with a handgun. Luckily, she escapes unharmed.

I particularly like one-page introductions that Kochalka has drawn to introduce each story. For the longest story, Peanut Butter warns that maybe you should pee before you start it. Jeremy adds, "If you're a baby!"

It's really just impossible to describe the unique appeal of this book. Use the "Search Inside" to get a peek.

Peanut Butter and Jeremy, a classic story of an overtly sweet cat befriending a bitter crow. I love this book, it is charming and silly. James Kochalka does some of his best work through cats.

This is book was not written for children. I was appalled by another parent's warning, "Don't be fooled by the cute cat on the cover and get this book for your child." People who buy books for their kids based on the cover are just as bad as people who take six year olds to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (just because they think it's a kid's book). As a parent, I think it's shameful the way some people go on auto pilot then get offended by what their children are exposed to. Your JOB is to know what your kids are reading, watching, doing. That's your JOB.

Anyway, sorry to everyone else. This book is great. It's light and refreshing and makes me happy to be alive.

A crow with an attitude and a cat with a big heart

Here's a graphic novel that is a lot of fun and is appropriate for younger kids! Peanutbutter is a cat with a job--she often "works" at filing papers, sorting accounts and general office management for her "boss." Jeremy is a crow who lives outside Peanutbutter's house...er..."office"--he's mean and crude, but Peanutbutter calls him her best friend. Both are typical representations of the creatures they portray, but they also have their own personalities. The book is divided into several short stories, with Peanutbutter and Jeremy introducing each one. The black and white drawings are simple and expressive, and the text is easy to read and page design is easy to follow. Recommended especially for cat lovers!

Best "relationship" book I've ever read

I have read books on codependence, anger management, you name it, but this book came into my hands thorough divine intervention (my 3-year-old grabbed it off the shelf at the library) and I took a chance on reading it. Let's just say I've read it multiple times and recommend it completely. Five enthusiastic stars.

Great read

I could not put this book down. It made me cry. So sad to think about how this court system views parents rights as if children are property instead of people. Our system is set up to protect the parents, usually the wrong one, instead of protecting the innocent. Thank you for sharing your story.

Thought provoking....

I have very strong feelings about these books. On the one hand, I am immensely disappointed with both the author and her husband. I can't imagine the pain and frustration they must have felt. I admire them for taking their daughter out of harm's way. But, I can't imagine blindly accepting court orders and saying nothing to my child about the abuse. I get the logic and paranoia they were feeling-it was quite clear. But if your daughter was as gifted as you say, she could surely hear the truth and not say anything to anyone else. I was appalled that her father touched her again inappropriately and nothing was said. I understand they were young but I would have talked and gone higher until someone listened. In addition, I felt there were a lot of excuses for the mistakes they made. I would have respected it more had she fessed up and said she didn't think it through or she made the wrong decision.
I also had such sympathy for Cheyenne. What she endured has a lasting effect and she was so brave, so strong, at such a young age. This book made me think and question the legal system, the child "protection" agencies and parent's abilities to function and make good decisions in times of such trauma.
What I would have loved is to hear Cheyenne's story from her perspective with mom as a coauthor to fill in the gaps. Hopefully Cheyenne is getting the majority of the money from the books since without her, there is no story.

A Very Good Book

I just finished reading the book. I am so sad with what happened to Cheyenne and her family, but so glad that she was able overcome, at least to some degree, the atrocities that she and her family had to endure. I hope and pray that the worst is now behind them, after all of these years, and that healing continues for all. The book was will written, although I'm sure very difficult to write. Thank you for sharing your story!

Very Nice Book

I bought this is a Christmas present for a relative who fixes up and sells cars. It's printed on nice, heavy, glossy paper. The book is divided into sections starting with early cars (through 1920), and then with a section for each decade thereafter. AT the beginning of each section is a double page with small pictures of representative cars from that decade, each labelled, and then closer looks at cars from that decade. It's well done. There are descriptions of the workings of an internal combustion engine, but they are not too technical. This book is very nice for anyone who likes cars, or, really, for someone who enjoys looking at the progression of something which is really central to our lives today.

A Good Gift Full Of Lots of Colorful Pictures

I am not the car enthusiast; my husband is. I can't evaluate the product from his perspective. However I found the book to be full of pictures and excellent photography. I enjoyed browsing it. It arrived with a torn cover but that was rectified as soon as I contacted Amazon. A complete new book was sent. I considered it a great gift; something he would not have bought for himself.

This was actually a gift for my three year old daughter and my husband for Christmas! My daughter and husband are both obsessed with cars. This has been one of the best car books I he looked through- it is a complete history! Both have spent hours looking and reading about all the cars. I like how the book is separated by decade!

Very Informative and Easy to Read and Remember

I needed to learn a lot about ancient Rome in a short amount of time for a project I was working on. DK Books are usually really good and showing a lot of pictures and getting a lot of information across in the least amount of technical text. This book did not disappoint. You're not going to find a lot of history on different emperors, but you will find tons of information on roman lifestyles, and that is what I needed. I was able to read it all in a single sitting.

Another gem from Douglas Wilson

I'll admit, I'm a little biased toward the work of Douglas Wilson. I think he's done as much to forward the study of Lincoln's early life than almost anyone so I enjoy and appreciate all his projects. This book, obivously, grew from his study of William Herndon's informants. Wilson offers thoughtfull essays on a wide variety of subjects pertaining to the pre-presidential Lincoln. Some is completely new, some expands on some well-known material. In the end though, Wilson, presents his material in a very readable way that had me, anyway, looking at Lincoln from another perspective. That, to me, is what historical research should accomplish.
